Affiliation to the health system (BDUA)

This is the query against the Base de Datos Única de Afiliados (BDUA), the registry ADRES runs that consolidates each person's affiliation to Colombia's health system (Sistema General de Seguridad Social en Salud). It returns the entity or EPS reporting the affiliation, the regime (contributivo or subsidiado), the status, the affiliation dates and the affiliate type, along with the registered name, department and municipality. The data is reported by the EPS and the insuring entities, and ADRES validates and reflects it, so a status or data update depends on the EPS, not on ADRES.

  • Active or terminated affiliation
    The affiliation status, for example active or terminated, and the EPS or entity that reports it.
  • Regime and affiliate type
    Whether the affiliation is contributivo or subsidiado, and whether the person is a contributor (cotizante) or a beneficiary.
  • Affiliation dates
    The effective start date and the end date. An end date of 31/12/2999 means the affiliation is still active with the entity.

Common questions

01What is the difference between the contributivo and subsidiado regimes?
The contributivo regime is for people who contribute to the system, usually through employment or as independent workers; the subsidiado regime is for people who access it through a state subsidy. The check tells you which regime each reported affiliation belongs to and with which EPS.
02Why does a person show as terminated from an EPS?
Because the EPS reported the termination of that affiliation. A person can have several affiliations over time, and the check lists each one with its dates. An end date of 31/12/2999 means the affiliation is still active with that entity.
03The affiliation data is out of date. What do I do?
Affiliation updates, such as transfers, terminations or data changes, are reported by the EPS, not by ADRES. Corrections are handled with the EPS you are affiliated to, or through the Mi Seguridad Social portal. The check reflects what has been reported so far.
04Can I use it to tell whether a person is affiliated to health at all?
Yes. If the document is registered in the BDUA, the check shows its affiliations; if it is not, it reports that the person is not found in the database. There is a per-hour cap per connection; if you need volume, use the Croma API.
