Where and when in the first line

Chiapas has an unusual and very useful editorial habit: the summary of nearly every bulletin states the municipality where the events happened and the date they happened, separately from the date the bulletin was published. That lets you place a case on the map and in time without opening the link, and see how long a matter took to reach an arrest. The recurring municipalities trace the state's geography: Tapachula, Comitán, Palenque, Ocosingo, San Cristóbal, Cintalapa, Simojovel and towns along the Guatemalan border. The prosecutor interleaves these case bulletins with prevention drives, including campaigns against phone extortion.

    The bulletin's sequence number and the category the prosecutor files it under in its press room.

  • Municipality and date of events

    The summary states where the event happened and on what day, alongside the publication date.

  • Video and link

    Whether the bulletin carries video material, and the link to the prosecutor's full note.

Common questions

There is no filter, but you barely need to open links: each summary names the municipality where the events happened, so paging through lets you spot the Tapachula, Comitán or Palenque items at a glance and assemble the list yourself.

One is the date the prosecutor published the bulletin; the other, in the summary, is the date the events took place. The gap between them is usually days or months, and it is exactly what shows how long a case took to reach an arrest or a hearing.

Chiapas has offices shaped by its context, among them one for migrants, created to prosecute offences committed against migrants living in or passing through the state, and one for indigenous justice. Many operations are announced jointly with the state public security ministry.
