The text in force and its whole legislative history

The lookup returns one Brazilian federal instrument as the Presidência da República publishes it through the Planalto: its consolidated text in force, in full or only the article you ask for, the ementa, the signing and publication dates, whether it was revoked and by which instrument, and, for a medida provisória, its status and the lei it was converted into. It also carries both directions of its legislative history: the later instruments that amended it, article by article, and the earlier instruments it amended itself, each with its identifier so you can keep reading. The text arrives in character ranges: the response gives the total length, whether there is more and the character to continue from. You take the identifier from the federal legislation search, for example lei-13105-2015 or cf-1988 for the Constituição.

  • Instrument record

    Type, number, year, name, ementa, signing and publication dates, and whether it was revoked and by which instrument.

  • Consolidated text

    The full text in force or a single article, in character ranges with the total length and where to continue from.

  • Amendments

    The instruments that amended it and those it amended, each with its identifier, plus the status of a medida provisória and the lei it was converted into.

Common questions

From Brazil's Presidência da República, which publishes federal legislation through the Planalto. Croma answers from the dataset it keeps updated with the whole source and returns the instrument structured; the data as of field tells you how current the data is.

Yes, it is free and needs no account. There is only a cap on lookups per hour from the same connection to prevent abuse, and one instrument per lookup. For volume, use the Croma API.

Enter the article number in the article field, for example 5, and the response carries only that article; the article_found field says whether the instrument has it. For a long instrument the text arrives in parts: when has_more is true, query again with next_offset as the starting character until it is false.

Because no identifier matches: the response comes back with found: false and it is definitive, not an error. The identifier is made up of the type, the number and the year, like lei-13105-2015 or cf-1988. Search for it first by number or text in the federal legislation search and copy the exact identifier from there.
