Institutional positions as reported

Every quarter, institutional managers list each US-listed position they hold on Form 13F: the issuer, the CUSIP that identifies the security, the value in dollars, the shares or principal amount, whether the position is a put or a call rather than the security itself, and how the votes are split. This search runs across managers at once, so a CUSIP or an issuer name gives every manager that reported holding it, largest first, and a manager's CIK gives that manager's whole book. Values are normalized to dollars, and the copy keeps recent quarters.

Common questions

Where does this information come from?
From Form 13F, the report every institutional manager with at least $100 million in US public equities files with the Securities and Exchange Commission within 45 days of each quarter's end. Croma keeps an organized copy and returns it structured, free and with no account. There is only a cap on searches per hour from the same connection.
How current is it?
The SEC publishes Form 13F as quarterly data sets a few weeks after each filing window closes, so the copy is as current as the newest one. Every response carries an as of date that says exactly how current. Form 13F itself lags too: a manager has 45 days after a quarter ends to report.
Is this everyone who owns the stock?
No, only institutional managers large enough to file, and only what they report. Insiders, retail investors, funds under the $100 million threshold and foreign holders are not on Form 13F, and short positions are never reported.
What is a CUSIP?
The nine-character code that identifies a security in the US, so every manager reports the same position under the same key. Apple's is 037833100. Searching by CUSIP is exact where searching by name depends on how each manager spelled it.
