# Every open US federal contract, from SAM.gov

SAM.gov is where US federal agencies publish contract opportunities: every proposed contract action expected to exceed $25,000, from a sources-sought notice through the solicitation to the award. As of today, `POST /us/sam/opportunities-search/v1` searches every notice SAM.gov lists as active, about 75,000, and `POST /us/sam/opportunity/v1` returns one of them in full. Both answer from Croma's own copy, brought up to date every day.

```bash
curl https://api.croma.run/us/sam/opportunities-search/v1 \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $CROMA_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "query": "cybersecurity",
    "type": "sources_sought",
    "deadline_from": "2026-10-09"
  }'
```

`type` picks the kind of notice and `deadline_from` keeps the ones still open to responses. The other filters:

| Filter | What it narrows |
| --- | --- |
| `query` | Words in the title, the text, the awardee or the solicitation number, with English stemming |
| `type` | `solicitation`, `combined_synopsis_solicitation`, `presolicitation`, `sources_sought`, `special_notice`, `award_notice` and five more |
| `department`, `sub_tier` | The posting department and agency, as SAM.gov writes them: `DEPT OF DEFENSE`, `DEPT OF THE ARMY` |
| `naics_code`, `classification_code` | The NAICS and product service codes, as prefixes: `23` is all of construction, `D` every IT service |
| `set_aside` | `SBA` (small business), `SDVOSBC`, `WOSB`, `8A`, `HZC` or `NONE` |
| `performance_state`, `office_state` | Where the work is and where the contracting office sits |
| `from_date`, `to_date`, `deadline_from`, `deadline_to` | The posting date and the response deadline |
| `sort` | `recent`, `deadline` (soonest first) or `amount_desc` (largest award first) |

Every notice comes with its title and text, the solicitation number, the department, agency and office that posted it, the NAICS and product service codes, the set-aside, the response deadline, the place of performance, the contracting officer's contact and, for an award, the contractor, the amount and the date.

## Awards too

Some 14,000 of the active notices are awards, so the same search answers who won what: `type: "award_notice"` with `sort: "amount_desc"` lists an agency's largest recent awards, and `query` finds a contractor by name.

## How to call it

Both endpoints are [dataset endpoints](https://docs.usecroma.com/datasets): they answer in milliseconds and carry `as_of`, how current the copy is. A notice SAM.gov archives leaves the list on the next refresh, and asking for it then returns `found: false`, which is a complete answer, not an error. They are also on the [MCP server](https://docs.usecroma.com/mcp-server) as `sam_opportunities_search` and `sam_opportunity`, and a [monitor](https://docs.usecroma.com/monitors) on a search emails you what is new after each daily refresh.

The full guide is at [SAM.gov Contract Opportunities](https://docs.usecroma.com/guides/united-states/sam-opportunities). The parties barred from federal awards are a separate source, [SAM.gov Exclusions](https://docs.usecroma.com/guides/united-states/sam). Every other US source is under [United States](/us).
