# A plate's SOAT, CAT and vehicle insurance in one lookup

Peru's SBS (Superintendencia de Banca, Seguros y AFP) publishes three reports per plate: SOAT, CAT and vehicle insurance (Seguro Vehicular). Until today `POST /pe/sbs/soat/v1` answered only the first. From today the same lookup returns all three in one response.

## What CAT and vehicle insurance are

CAT (Certificado contra Accidentes de Tránsito) replaces SOAT for public transport vehicles in some provinces, such as mototaxis and minibuses. It is issued by AFOCATs, regional funds, and SBS has CAT data from 2022. That is why each certificate names the AFOCAT in `company` and carries a certificate number but no policy number.

Vehicle insurance is the private cover an owner buys on top of the mandatory one. Its policies have the same shape as SOAT's.

Each report says on its own whether the plate has a record. A mototaxi can be `found: false` for SOAT and `found: true` under `cat`, and that is a complete answer, not an error.

## More detail on every policy

Every policy and certificate, across the three reports, gains two fields that until now you could only read in the comment:

- `annulment_reason`: why it was annulled, when the source says (for example `falta de pago`, non-payment). `annulled_date` is now also read on those annulments that give a reason.
- `rectified_date`: the date the insurer corrected the record.

SOAT and CAT also carry `coverages[]`: what they cover (death, temporary disability, permanent disability, funeral, medical expenses) and up to how much, in UIT.

## What changes if you already use it

Nothing breaks. The SOAT fields stay where they were, under the same names; `vehicle_insurance`, `cat` and `coverages` are added alongside. The lookup takes a little longer because it builds three reports, and it is still an [async job](https://docs.usecroma.com/async-jobs): by default it waits inline, or you can poll or pass a `callback_url`.
